Hunter S Thompson once wrote "The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. "I feel this quote is a lot like trying to tell someone who has never seen a Meanies show before just how much fun it is. It is something that you just have to experience for yourself.
The Meanies, the twin guitar attack of Alan Cost (also plays keys) and Darrell Yates is shredtastic. Mr Matt Hays is an excellent bass player putting the bottom end down and keeping it down. Danny Millsaps has throat and lungs seemingly made of leather on the screamer stuff and can still be silky smooth on your favorite 80's Power Ballad. Who remembers the Power Ballad? Come On!... you know you remember every single word to Fly To The Angels,Every Rose ect...And lets not forget the engine that powers this Rock N Roll machine, on the drums...Sharpe"Animal" Dunaway. Sharpe absolutely attacks the drum kit and has a truckload of charisma.
Seeing these guys for anyone who grew up in the 80's, like ME, is like a trip back in time to High School Friday nights at Butler Park or your local spot back in the 80's. They make you say "I haven't heard that song in a long time" several times during any given show. Every Meanies show I have ever been to, I left with my ears ringing, my head buzzing and a BIG smile on my face. You owe it to yourself to have that kind of experience as often as possible.
So, I will close this Odyssey by borrowing another one of Hunter S Thompson's phrases "Buy the ticket,Take the ride..."in other words GO SEE A MEANIES SHOW!
